I’m Janie Liou, Founder of Prime Purpose. I’m a life coach and I help people learn to thrive at work. Here’s my story. I was a creative in an unstable job industry (music), in and out of numerous jobs. For years I couldn’t figure out why. Turns out each job was a stepping stone, and they became ultimate clues to my purpose. I have worked in business / non-profits, faith based and non faith based, I’ve been the employee and employer, I’ve been in corporate environments, and as an entrepreneur. Of course I was also in the arts and entertainment industry. I’ve been in every marketplace role imaginable, so it’s given me a bird’s eye view on how to advance forward towards my dreams and goals, as well as shift the atmosphere of whatever industry I’m in. I discovered that I really love coaching and helping people over performing. You know why I really, genuinely love what I do? It’s about helping people! I wake up everyday excited about what I get to do.
So what’s the ONE BIG THING? It’s the foundation. You know every building has to start with the foundation and framing first. Most people are not able to understand the framing that holds up that entire structure…and they often take for granted the invisible dynamics that take place. So I’m going to break it down for you.

Let’s talk about the framework concept. Look at your company or industry like an invisible matrix or grid. Like the skeleton that forms the body of something. So many people miss this. They usually only look at their position in it or their livelihood. But it’s crucial to understanding the rest of the concepts. The mistake most people make (both employees as well as higher level execs) is they try to use a 1 dimensional way of running a department, working within it. It’s very inside the box thing. They use their skill, experience, and training and think they can just take it with them no matter what industry they’re in.
Now to the work assignment. The mistake I made for years…was that I was only looking at the present. Just trying to go from job to job, focusing on making money to live. But I didn’t see that every single job held a clue to what I would eventually love, become, and how I could see my job differently. Every job is an assignment, a stepping stone to finding ultimate purpose.
Understand the individual imprint. Most people don’t realize, no matter what level position you’re in, you have a very significant part in the puzzle of your company. You could be in custodial services or the mail room, but you are just as valuable in the chain as the highest level exec.
Become aware of the people around you. Entrepreneurship sounds good when you think about being your own boss, right? The truth of the matter is that even when you run your own business, you deal with people. Understanding relational dynamics means you’ll thrive and the people around you will thrive no matter what work culture you’re in.
Once you understand how each of these principles work, and how they work TOGETHER, then you’re able to move forward.
